Professor Ataide brings considerable business experience to his current position as Professor of Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of the Fermanian Business & Economic Institute at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California.

As Executive Director, Professor Ataide provides primary leadership for the strategic planning of the Center’s mission, and teaches contemporary management, entrepreneurship, and the leads the small business institute and Entrepreneur program at the Fermanian School of Business.

The San Diego Daily Transcript has named Professor Ataide one of “San Diego’s Top 50 Influentials” for 2010.

Prior to joining PLNU, Ataide co-founded as served as President of several inter-related diversified agricultural companies for 15 years and currently provides strategic consulting services to a variety of firms in innovation, health care & financial services, among others. He also assists with several business start-ups.

As a Professor, his primary area of research and teaching is entrepreneurship, and he has successfully presented peer-reviewed papers on strategic planning or entrepreneurship at the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) national convention in 2007; Western Association of Schools & Colleges Convention; the Christian Business Faculty Association national convention in 2008; and his paper The PLNU Entrepreneur Enrichment Program as an Alternative to Business Plan Competitions appears in the Summer 2009 edition of the Christian Business Academy Review. His paper “A Thorny & Unresolved Issue: Are Religious Entrepreneurs Social Entrepreneurs?” was presented at the International Social Innovation Research Conference at Oxford University in September 2009, and has been selected by Oxford for publication in an edited volume to be released in 2010. Works in progress include identifying specific forms of entrepreneurship within Portugal and France, where he travels and speaks frequently.

Professor Ataide holds a B.A. degree in Speech Communication (Magna Cum Laude), a Masters Degree in Theology and a Juris Doctor degree, and he has been a member of the California State Bar Association. In 2002, he completed Stanford Graduate School of Business’s Executive Management Program and from 2004-06 attended Harvard Business School’s Owner-President Management Program.  At Harvard, he received the “Best Strategy Critique” and was selected as his class commencement speaker in 2006.
