Richard & Diana Nares

When Richard and Diana Nares received the devastating news in 1998 that their 3-year-old son, Emilio, was diagnosed with leukemia, their whole world turned upside down. Unfortunately, after countless hospital visits and treatments, Emilio passed away in 2000 right before his 6th birthday. Richard was devastated, but his grief inspired him to take action. He then decided to provide transportation – every day – for families all over San Diego County who struggled with this need. This led to the creation of the Emilio Nares Foundation in 2003. Due to his incredible drive to help struggling families with cancer-related issues, the Emilio Nares Foundation currently provides 167 patients and their families with transportation to and from the hospital.
