Kem Taylor

Succession Maintenance Coordinator

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

The first firm Kem ever worked with was sold twice. With no clear planning, it was costly and disruptive both times. Later in her career, Kem worked at an RIA firm where she helped set up a transition plan for an advisor with health problems. As a result, when he passed, the firm retained 100% of its clients, the staff stayed in place, and the advisor’s family was well taken care of.

These two wildly differing experiences sparked Kem’s passion for transition and succession planning. It wasn’t until she heard FP Transitions President, David Grau Sr., speak that the light bulb went off: She could turn her passion into a career, helping advisors plan for their future.

Kem grew up with a mother who’s an artist, and a father who’s a financial planner, exposing her to an interesting mix of art and finance. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, she worked creating audio tours for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City before making the move to an RIA firm.

After working with RIAs for 10 years, Kem had learned the ropes by wearing many hats, from marketing, to compliance, to accounting. And before finding her way to the FP Transitions Succession Team Kem managed the transitions team at LPL Financial, helping newly independent advisors set up their firms.

Today, Kem has put her passion to work and is responsible for Phase III of FP Transitions’ Succession Management Program (SMP), guiding clients on the ongoing review and assessment of their succession plans, because even solid plans continually evolve.

Kem spent many years volunteering with Global Citizens Circle supporting peace-process work with the leaders of South Africa and Northern Ireland. She now is actively involved with The Center for Wealth and Legacy in San Diego. Kem earned her Series 7, 24 and 66 securities licenses and is a Certified Business Exit Consultant™.  She lives in San Diego, CA with her husband of 20 years, Ken.
